Despite the 10% budget cuts to our program effective Oct 1, 2009,
Alpha Centers will NOT be reducing payments to our Foster Parents
Adoption through a foster family agency is a beneficial means of adopting a child without the considerable wait, nor the financial burden placed upon adoptive parents when going through other methods of adoption.

- Adoption is affordable through the foster care program. The foster care program is a legal process that lends itself to the adoption of a foster child by being able to follow the legal progress of an individual child and regonizing the point at which the child may be up for adoption.
- A "fos-adopt" home (adoptive parents living in a certified foster care home) is one option courts do consider when reunification services are no longer offered and the termination of parental rights is being considered.
Alpha Treatment Centers has over 20 years of experience with the recruiting and training of foster parents, and certifying their homes in order to place foster children in a safe and positive environment.
Throughout the years, many of our foster parents have been asked to consider adopting a child placed in their care. Many of those asked have graciously agreed to the blessed event of welcoming a "new" member into their family.
If you live in the Southern California area and wish to explore the possibility of becoming a foster parent(s) or an adoptive parent(s) look over the basic requirements, take the yes test and if you feel comfortable with your situation as it relates to foster care or adoption through foster care contact us.

*Fos-adopt - (the legal process)
- A child is removed by local authorites and placed out-of-home because of unsafe circumstances.
- The court orders the presiding county (Department of Children's Services) to intervene with a plan to assist in the reunification of the child's family.
- The child is placed into foster care (group home or with relatives).
- Should the natural parents, after a significant period of time has elapsed, fail to show the court adequate progress towards reunification, the court can withdraw reunification services and turn their attention to a permanent placement of the foster child.
- It is at this time when adoption is considered while the child remains in foster care.
- If it is the county's plan to recommend the termination of parental rights at the next court hearing (usually within 6 months) , the county will look to place the foster child into a certified foster home with an adoptive parent or couple.
- Thus, the transition from foster care ==> adoption (the fos-adopt process) begins and once parental rights have been terminated (perhaps 6-months down the road) the foster care case can legally become an adoption case under the supervision of an adoption worker.
- So, during the months prior to the court terminating parental rights, an adoptive parent or couple can have those months (as foster parents) to bond with the child before the case goes to adoption. This "foster care" time with the child allows all parties to focus on all aspects of the placement which can lend itself to a smooth tranisition from foster care to adoption (thus the term fos-adopt).
